Reading Buddies is a fun weekly reading support program that gives children one-to-one reading practice with a caring volunteer who loves to read. Buddies read together for pleasure and enjoy fun activities that promote confidence, interest and the joy of reading!

Who can participate?

The program is geared towards children in Grades 1 to 3, including French Immersion students. Reliable and dedicated VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED.

When and where?

Weekly sessions run in our program room (Lower Level)

  • Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm April 3 to May 22
  • Wednesdays 3:45-4:45pm April 4 to May 23
  • Fridays 3:45-4:45pm April 6 to May 25

How much?

$15 per child (attends once/week for 8 weeks). Each child/volunteer will receive a FREE library card, and any overdue fines (up to $15.00) will be forgiven too!

Who are the Big Buddies?

They are VOLUNTEERS from our community who love to read, enjoy working with children, and want to help their community. They receive training before and during the program and earn community service hours for school too.

What do the Little Buddies do?

For the first half hour, Buddies will spend some quality time reading books and chatting about what they have read together. Following a quick snack, Reading Buddies will then participate in a fun literacy activity together.

How do I register?

Registration for the SPRING session begins February 12!.

Space is limited and is first come, first serve. Space also depends on the number of applications we receive from both children and volunteers.
