4. The Joseph Gould Room

Previous | Index | Next

The Joseph Gould Room was the original reading room. The reading room was separate from the library and was open longer hours. It was here that a gentleman could come and enjoy his pipe while reading the evening paper. By 1904, the reading room was receiving 4 daily papers, 15 weekly papers and 14 magazines. It still serves as a quiet reading and study room, although smoking is no longer permitted!

The Joseph Gould Room now houses the Genealogy Department. There are two computers located in the Genealogy Department which have access to the Internet and are attached to Microfilm Reader-Printers. Check out this hidden gem when you come to the Library.
