Got questions? Here are answers!

What is this?

The Teen Summer Reading Group is run by the Uxbridge Public Library. With the help of our Teen Advisory Board, we've picked eight books for you to read this summer. During the last eight weeks of summer, you get to vote for your favourite book, and each week we'll be eliminating one book. You can also write your own book reviews on any book you want!

What if I don't want to read 8 books?

That's okay! You don't have to read all of the books, or any of them if none interest you. You can still participate by leaving book reviews for other books. We've just suggested these books if you don't have a place to start for your summer reading. Of course, if you don't read any of the books we picked, you can't exactly vote on them!

Why would I want to join?

Glad you asked! Aside from the fact that you get to share your opinions about books on this site, we are also giving away PRIZES! Any time you write a book review or leave a comment, we will enter you into a weekly draw for great prizes! We will also have a little pizza party at the end of summer for anyone who wants to come. And did I mention that any book review you leave will get published on the site? We aren't just posting the "best" ones!

Who can join?

TEENS! This group is just for teenagers, so if you're entering grade 8-12 in September 2011, you can join.

Who is running this?

Corrinne and Deanna are our names, and you'll see us posting on the site every once in a while (okay, maybe more often than that). We work at the library, so drop on by and say hi! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us!

How do I get started?

You want to join, GREAT! It's really simple to sign up-- just click the button at the top right that says "Sign Up". Fill out all the boxes on the form, and you're set! It's really important that you accurately fill out the whole form, otherwise we may not be able to contact you in the event that you win a prize! If you want to see examples of book reviews left last year, click here. For more help with getting signed up and writing book reviews, click here.

End of Summer Wrap-Up Post  |  Leave a comment?

September 2nd, 2011 by Deanna

Well guys, I’ve been putting it off…but I can’t put it off any longer. It’s the end of summer and the end of the Teen Summer Reading Group. This year was a BLAST! We had so much more participation than we could have ever hoped for, and your enthusiasm has surely secured a place for the summer blog for years to come. In case you’re curious, we had over 160 people sign up, and about 200 blogs and comments (combined). This is HUGE! There were over 250 votes total cast in the search for Uxbridge’s Next Top Novel. All in all, I’d say this was a pretty successful summer group and we will ABSOLUTELY be having it again next year! We are also considering doing an online book club for during the school year, so watch the teen page for details on that, and other teen stuff happening at the library. If you want, you can absolutely feel free to keep posting and commenting on this site during the school year– but we won’t be giving away any more prizes. One more thing– Would you guys mind filling out a little ten-question survey about the summer book club? Click here to go to the survey. It’s completely anonymous and completely optional, but it would be a great help if you could fill it out!!! We will also be sending out an email with the link to everyone.

Thanks again for a great summer! Good luck with school :)

This book was one of the worst books I have read. I wouldn’t recommend this book it was really hard to get into. All my votes are going to thirteen reasons why.

The Power of Six by: Pittacus Lore  |  3 Comments

August 26th, 2011 by boardbreak

The books main theme (I think) is Four’s feelings for Sarah and Six. They are also convinced that the mogadorians have opened up six’s chest. And they have another fight with the mogadorians and they take Four’s chest.

There’s alot of action that goes into these kinds of books. I really enjoy this series, but I think it depends on if you like the sci-fi fantasy genres, otherwise you might not have fun with this book, which has lots of Aliens and high tech weapons.

So read on!

Cherub series By: Robert Muchamore  |  Leave a comment?

This is one of the best series I have ever read. It is a twelve book series that go through kids life at a spy camp. You might think it sounds stupid because it is about kid spies but it is actually amazing. I suggest this series to anyone. Plus Robert Muchamore has another series out with 4 books in it that are also good. It is called the Hederson Boys. :)
